Happy 2014

We would like to wish you all a happy 2014.

Classes will resume the week starting Monday 6th January in Killarney and Killorglin.

All grades and age groups train together which makes it ideal as a family activity as adults and children can train at the same time.


Beginners and new members are always welcome.

Classes are on as follows:

We are pleased to announce that Sensei Hiroshi Ken Hassell will be back with us and will run a course/seminar the weekend of the 28th Nov. to the 1 Dec 2013.

Sensei Hassell is a world class instructor, he has been involved in Traditional Shotokan Karate for over 40 years. He has given seminars in Killorglin in the past and these have always been very instructive and well worth attending. 

Sensei Hassell received direct personal tuition from top Japanese Masters such as Kawazoe Sensei and Enoeda Sensei and Shirai Sensei. His technical knowledge and ability in Kata and Bunkai is second to none, and he is considered to be one of the best technicians in the world  today.

The training times and venue for the course will be confirmed at a later date.

This is an open seminar and everyone is welcome to attend irrespective of style or organisation.

Summer Break

Please note that the club will take a break from 20th August until 10th September 2013 as Sensei Charles is on Holidays. The last karate class for the summer will take place in Sporty’s Gym in Killarney on Tuesday 20th August, at 6pm.

Classes will resume on Tuesday the 10th September in Killarney and Wednesday 11th September in Killorglin.

Seminar with Sensei Ray Payne

Kerry Shotokan Karate school hosted a very successful training camp in St Marys Parish Hall, Killarney on Saturday 22nd June. Sensei Ray Payne (7th Dan SKIF)
attended as guest instructor to some 45 students who had travelled from Bandon, Kenmare and Dingle. Sensei Payne acquired his first black belt in 1977, and since
then has been active practising and teaching Karate.

Sensei Charles Neri (Kerry Shotokan Karate school) who was responsible for organising the event, described Sensei Payne as an “inspirational instructor who was able to motivate all seminar participants, young and old alike”, and marked it a great event for the school.

Following the training, some 40 karatekas undertook grading. Well done to all concerned!

Sensei Ray Payne Seminar in Killarney

Sensei Ray Payne, 7th Dan, from SKIF will be running a seminar in St.Mary’s Parish Hall, Killarney on Saturnday 22nd June 2013.

Sensei Ray Payne began karate in 1975 with Tomita Sensei and graded for his first Dan (Shodan) in December 1977 under Kawasoe Sensei. Sensei Ray Payne has represented SKIF Ireland at numerous World and European Championships and has won many medals for SKIF Ireland including 2 Gold Medals at the 2008 SKIF European Championships in Sardinia. We are looking forward to training with Sensei Payne and would encourage all club members to attend.

Venue: St.Mary’s Parish Hall, Killarney

Seniors / Advanced – 12-3pm
Mixed (white-black) – 1:30-3pm

Fees: Seniors €20 Children €10 Cadet €15

Following the Seminar a grading for Kerry Shotokan students will take place and will start at 3:10pm. Only students who have shows sufficient progress and trained regularly will be eligible for grading. You can view the syllabus for your rank on this website

Killarney and Camp classes started

Kerry Shotokan has now started new classes in Killarney and Camp (Tralee).


Classes in Killarney take place every Tuesday evening in Sporty’s Gym in Killarney Main Street. They run from 6:00 to 7:30 pm and are open to all irrespective of age or rank.

We also run a class each Saturday afternoon from 4:00 to 5:30 in Camp Sports Hall. Again all ages and grades are welcome to attend.
