WOMAA Tournament

Congratulations to David, Dave and Sensei Damian who all got medals at the WOMAA World Tournament in Killarney last week.

FSKA World Tournament 2010

The FSKA World Tournament 2010 will be taking place in Karpacz, Poland between 24th and 27th September 2010. Kerry Shotokan Karate School will be represented in Poland as we will have 8 people competing at the event including Sensei Neri.

Additional training has been taking place and we wish all who will compete the best of luck in the competition.

Carlow International Open Competition

A reminder that we have been invited to attend Carlow Karate Club’s International Open Karate Competition, on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd of October 2010 in Carlow. The Competition will have competitors from Ireland, Northern Ireland, England, Wales, Austria, France and Hungary participating.

This is quite soon after the FSKA World Championship (following week) but we would encourage anybody not travelling to Poland to take part in the competition in Carlow.

Any club members interested in competing, please contact Sensei Charles for further information.

Grading Saturday 26th June

Please note that grading will take place on Saturday 26th June at the sports Complex Killorglin.

The event will start at 11:00 am with the children and lower belts. Fee for the grading is €25. Please bring your budo passes. Please note that people presenting for grading are expected to know the appropriate Kata and Syllabus. The syllabus for each of the belts can be found on this website.

Joint Lock/Bunkai Seminar

Sensei Les Elliott from Glengariff and Bantry FSKA will be holding a joint lock/bunkai/pain compliance seminar starting at 11am sharp in the Kenmare dojo on Sunday 13th June 2010.

After a break for lunch the seminar will restart in the afternoon until around 4:00pm. The cost of the seminar is €15 per student.  This is a course more suitable for higher grades children and adults.

Please note that the next grading will take place on Friday 26th June 2010. Please discuss with Sensei Charles to see if you or your child is eligible for grading.

Glengariff Tournament 15th May 2010

Teams from Kerry Shotokan Karate School clubs from Kenmare and Killorglin attended a competition in Eccles Hotel in Glengariff organised by the Bantry and Glengariff Karate clubs. The club was well represented and had a very successful day winning medals at various levels , in Kata, Team Kata and Kumite.

to all those who travelled and thanks to the parents who travelled there to support the clubs. Special congratulation to Cormac Doyle for winning the Kata of the tournament profile.

Carlow Competition, 2nd and 3rd October 2010

Carlow Karate Club have invited Kerry Shotokan Karate club to take part in a tournament they are organising the weekend of 2nd October 2010. This is the week after the FSKA World Championships in Poland so it may not be feasible for some club members. We would encourage whoever does not go to Poland to compete in Carlow. I will post further information on this later.

Competition – Ardee 2010

Ardee International Karate Competition 2010

A large group from Kerry Shotokan travelled to Ardee for their International Karate Competition on Saturday. The competition was organised by Ireland Wadokai Karate-Do Renmei who kindly invited us to take part. The standard of Karate was very high with teams competitors from Ireland, England, Scotland and other countries and that included both Wado-ryu and Shotokan clubs. We wish to thank the organisers for a great event.

The club were well represented at the competition with 20 people from the club competing in the Kata category and 14 competed in Kumite and the club did very well overall.

20 people from the club competed in the Kata category and 14 competed in Kumite. This was a great event which gave most of us a chance to meet competitors from Ireland, England, Scotland and other countries and that included both Wado-ryu and Shotokan clubs.

Kerry shotokan won 18 medals including 4 gold, 7 silver and 7 bronze. Thank you to those who drove all the way up (and back) to Ardee at the weekend and congratulation to all who competed.
